How to Prepare for your Session

  • PARKING: We are a home based float studio so please feel free to park on the driveway. We love that and so do our neighbors. Alternatively, please find free parking along the street out front.

  • FLOATING IS INTUITIVE! All you need is you - come as you are.

  • FIRST FLOATS ARE 60MINUTES IN THE TANK: After your first float, you can choose up to 90mins for your session

  • HONOR YOURSELF BY GIVING THE FULL TIME FOR THE EXPERIENCE: We think self care is pretty awesome! This will include your consultation, orientation, pre/post showers and your magical first float

  • YOU FLOAT IN YOUR BIRTH DAY SUIT :) We love getting naked around here - physically in the tank and exploring layers of our beings. Don't worry, you float in your own private room with it's own shower

  • NO CAFFEINE OR STIMULANTS: This helps so you  can truly relax. Avoid alcohol, drugs and stimulants such as caffeine and cigarettes the day of your appointment. Please note: if you are under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol you will not be permitted to float.

  • AVOID SHAVING: It is SO spicy! We recommend to avoid shaving or waxing within 24hours of your float session.

  • EAT A SMALL MEAL 1-2 HOURS BEFORE FLOATING: Floating can stimulate digestion so we recommend having something like a whole piece of fruit, smoothie or protein bar

  • Please avoid perfumes or scented products

  • INTEGRATION:  We recommend you spend at least 20mins afterwards to integration your float.  Please note: this is a cell phone free zone.

  • BE OPEN TO THE UNEXPECTED: This is the BEST way to float! Let it unfold and guide you. We highly encourage not to schedule yourself for much afterwards.

Float Etiquette

1. Birthday suits only!

Yep, you float in your sacred naked!  There are a couple reasons for this:

  •  You are entering a sensory reduction space of nothingness and so you will be hyper-aware of the sensation of your bathing suit which is incredibly distracting to your experience.
  • We do not allow any outside materials into the float tanks to be respectful of not introducing outside contaminates.
  • Not to worry - the whole space is private just for you and doors are lockable

2. Shower before you float

We love to have a partnership in cleanliness.  Floaters meet us here with their prefloat shower.  The purpose is to get thoroughly clean before entering the tank; physically but also mentally, emotionally and spiritually.  We invite you to consider your prefloat shower as a way to let go and wash away anything that no longer serves before stepping into the tank.

3. Float items

  • We provide shower scrub towels, body towels and face towels.  An offering of gratitude can be in folding the towels and leaving them on the bench in the float rooms or placing them in the hamper at the end of your float.
  • Shower products are provided that are eco-friendly, high quality, locally sourced that work in synergy with the studio.  No outside products or fragrances are permitted.
  • Please leave float items in the way they received you.  This includes placing float supports back in their original location, returning all items used except the earplugs as they are reusable so please take them with you.

4.  Opening and closing your float space

Creating a symbiotic partnership with your float space, will take you deeper into your relationship to your experience. Fostering care and respect for the float environment can be part of the gateway to self and the art of floating. There is a great opportunity to be present to your float session with intention...allow yourself to step into your own universe and surrender

One of our favorite techniques is to consciously "open" and "close" your space.  This is a ritual of intentionally opening to your experience and stepping into the sensation of the present moment.

It is creating an environment for exploration that differs from everyday routine. This could be with a thought, an intention on the board, using the intentional salt, a shower routine, etc.  At the end of your float it is important to "close" your session by energetically bringing all your pieces back to you, integrating your float bring yourself back by deeply breathing and coming into your present moment with mindfulness. This ritual also clears the energy for the next person  sharing the space.

We do this everyday: we open the float studio with our own ritual, clearing the space between floats and closing the medicine space with gratitude at night.

Floating

Benefits of Floating

Float Benefits

Offering  meditative relaxation, chronic pain relief, natural pain management  & stress relief, rest, magnesium absorption and overall personal  growth through floatation.

Floating's benefits really depend on what you're looking to accomplish, but One Love Float is here to help you get there. Some people float to simply unwind and disconnect from a busy world, while others look for tangible improvements to overall health and specific conditions.

How Floating Works

The density of the salt water puts the floater in an environment where about 80% of the gravity we usually feel is no longer affecting the body. We use a large portion of our mental and physical resources counteracting the force of gravity and the relief of this effort leaves our body with a surplus of energy and processing power at its disposal. Without this “gravity tax” our body focuses its energies on resting, recuperating and healing anything that needs attention. The gravity-reduced environment allows our body to decompress, especially throughout the joints and the spinal column. It is the combination of these elements that creates the benefits of floating.

Noticeable effects from floating include:

~ excerpt from Dr. Engle’s article Floating - the Ultimate Ally

1. Pain reduction – an increase in the  body’s own endorphin production and theta state induction, thereby  acting as a natural analgesic as well as assisting one to come off  opiate medications with less difficulty.

2.Anxiety reduction – the sensory  deprived tank allows for less stimulus to the RAS (reticular activating  center – the environmental scanning police), resulting in less cortical  neural firing to the areas for fight or flight mode. Overall this lowers  the levels of circulating stress hormones (ACTH, cortisol, NE and E),  as well as offering one the opportunity to improve self-regulation  skills and ultimately, personal empowerment.

3. Decreased blood pressure – through relaxation of the smooth muscles of the cardiovascular system

4. Improved learning – one of the best  Nootropic tools available. Consistently demonstrated to increase IQ scores,  visual concentration, memory storage and recall.

5. Weight management – the hypothalamic mediation of the metabolic switch resets to optimize metabolism over time

6. Enhanced creativity – likely through left / right hemispheric synchrony and potentially via pineal gland activation.

7. Increased sensory awareness after the  session and “out of the tank.” The globally heightened senses can last  for some up to days after a session. The RAS (environmental sensory  scanner) comes back on line in the midst of residual induction of the  theta brainwave state (relaxation and sense of timelessness). They  combine uniquely to enhance perceptual abilities, both internally and externally, while maintaining presence and awareness.

8. Lasting sense of peace and well-being –  the culmination of all the above mentioned effects, one of the most  universally described phenomena by floaters and a summary statement for  what many call the “Flow State.”

9. Depression |  Anxiety  | Chronic fatigue  |  Panic attacks - From a purely clinical psychiatric perspective, there are  literally countless case reports that have successfully used float  therapy as a treatment for these aliments.

Benefits of Epsom Salt

  • Skin and hair health
  • Muscle and joint soreness
  • Cleansing and detoxing the body
  • Absorption of magnesium that is lacking in most diets
  • Magnesium is used as an electrolyte to ensure proper muscle, nerve and enzyme function, facilitate calcium absorption, prevent diabetes, asthma, osteoporosis, stroke, heart attacks, inflammation reduction, migraine relief and PMS symptoms

Benefits Of Magnesium On The Body

  • Magnesium works within our cells — the powerhouses, factories and regulators of the body’s systems. It is a necessary part of hundreds of biochemical reactions occurring constantly inside our cells, magnesium’s presence or absence affects the brain, the muscles, and the heart and blood vessels. Magnesium functions as a regulator of electrolyte balance, metabolism, and other biochemical reactions. Magnesium is needed to keep muscle and nerve functions normal and to keep the heart beating rhythmically. It also helps to support a healthy immune system, and keeps bones strong. Magnesium is important in terms of regulating blood sugar levels, thereby promoting normal blood pressure. Magnesium also supports energy metabolism and protein synthesis.
  • Floatation tanks are filled with 750-1000lbs of Epsom Salt (Magnesium Sulfate). The most effective way for the body to absorb Magnesium is through the skin as it is bioavailability remains intake and not compromised by digestive functions. The body has the opportunity to utilizing the 60-90 minutes to uptake necessary Magnesium to assist with the following:
    • Better sleep - The sleep regulating hormone melatonin is disturbed when Magnesium is deficient. Furthermore, Magnesium brings balance and controls stress hormones. Stress and tension are often reasons why people suffer from insomnia in the first place.
    • Relaxes the nervous system - Serotonin, which relaxes the nervous system and elevates mood, is dependent on Magnesium. It also allows nerves to send messages in the brain and nervous system
    • Bigger, stronger and relaxed muscles - Magnesium allows the body to produce more Insulin-like Growth Factor (IGF-1), which is a major contributor to the growth and strength of muscles. Furthermore, adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is the cell's energy store, and is created with help from Magnesium
    • Better flexibility - Magnesium loosens tight muscles. Without Magnesium, muscles do not relax properly and cramps occur. Magnesium is important for flexibility, because low Magnesium results in a buildup of lactic acid, causing pain and tightness
    • Bone integrity and strength - Magnesium helps to fix calcium properly and suppresses the parathyroid hormone that breaks down bone
    • Remineralizes teeth - Magnesium deficiency causes an unhealthy balance of phosphorous and calcium in saliva, which damages teeth.
    • Alkalizes the body - Magnesium helps return the body’s pH balance. Magnesium reduces lactic acid, which is partly responsible for post-exercise pain (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness)
